Charlie Chu is a photographer based in Portland, Oregon, specializing in high-key, magazine style portraiture built around authentic connections with his subjects, and mobile studio quality lighting.
 

Charlie developed his perspective as a photographer in Los Angeles, shooting bands and personalities in and around Hollywood, Silverlake, and Echo Park, as well as time spent as a league shooter for the LA Derby Dolls. Having access to creatives in LA's entertainment industry, and working regularly in the vibrant roller derby community allowed him to establish a style that mixed glamour and sports with a documentary bent that left a permanent impression on his approach to portraiture.

In addition to photography, Charlie spends his time playing second fiddle to his 4th grade son Oliver, and his superhero wife Heather, a certified nurse practitioner midwife.

 

In his free time, he also serves on his local school board.

 

After 20+ years of taking photos in a semi-pro capacity, Charlie is now applying his skills towards making high-end photography accessible to community members, local business people, and families who are excited to collaborate on capturing the most vital and exciting versions of themselves in an image.
